Our Church School

Welcome to Wittersham Church of England Primary School!

As a small rural Church of England school, our Christian vision is at the heart of everything we do. It shapes the way we learn, the way we treat one another and the aspirations we hold for every child. Guided by our values of Compassion, Courage and Cooperation, we want every member of our school community to feel valued, nurtured and empowered to flourish.

Flourishing in God’s Light

We believe that every child is unique, precious and full of potential. Our role is to help children recognise their strengths, develop their talents and become the very best that God intended them to be.

We nurture the whole child – academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually – creating an environment in which children feel safe to explore, question, make mistakes, persevere and succeed.

Our high expectations are matched by care and encouragement. We want children to leave Wittersham not only with the knowledge and skills they need for the next stage of their education, but with confidence in who they are and a belief in what they can achieve.

Compassion, Courage and Cooperation

Our three Christian values – Compassion, Courage and Cooperation – provide the foundations for life at Wittersham. Together, they form our Wittersham Way: the way we learn, behave, build relationships and care for one another.

Compassion teaches us to notice others, to show kindness, understanding and forgiveness, and to recognise our responsibility to care for those around us.

Courage enables us to embrace challenge, persevere when things are difficult, speak up for what is right and have the confidence to try something new.

Cooperation reminds us that we are stronger together. We learn to listen, contribute, compromise and support one another, recognising the important part that each of us plays within our school family.

The Wittersham Way brings these values to life. They are not simply words we talk about; they shape our choices, our actions and the way we treat one another every day.

Our Voyage of Discovery

Our vision is inspired by the biblical story of the Road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13–35), in which the disciples embark upon a journey filled with conversation, questioning, discovery and, ultimately, understanding.

This journey reflects the experience we want for every child at Wittersham.

Learning should inspire curiosity. Children should have opportunities to ask questions, investigate ideas, make connections and discover more about themselves and the world around them. Through a rich and ambitious curriculum, meaningful experiences and opportunities beyond the classroom, we encourage our children to become confident, independent and enthusiastic learners.

Their time at Wittersham is a voyage of discovery – one in which they are supported and challenged as they grow in knowledge, skills, character and faith.

Preparing Children for Their Wider World

We are immensely proud of our rural community and the strong sense of belonging that comes from being part of Wittersham. At the same time, we recognise our responsibility to prepare children for a world that extends far beyond our village.

Through our curriculum, wider opportunities and Christian ethos, children learn about different people, cultures, communities and perspectives. We encourage them to think deeply, act compassionately and understand that they can make a positive contribution to the lives of others.

Our aspiration is that every child leaves Wittersham with strong foundations for their future: equipped with knowledge, enriched by experience and guided by a clear moral purpose.

Belonging at Wittersham

Wittersham is more than a place to learn. It is a community in which children are known, relationships matter and everyone has a part to play.

Together, as children, families, staff, governors, church and community, we seek to create a school in which everyone can belong, flourish and grow.

From the moment a child begins their journey with us, we want them to know that they are valued, that they are capable and that their possibilities are far-reaching.

At Wittersham, every child’s voyage of discovery matters.
