The School Day
The School Day
The school day at Wittersham Church of England Primary School is carefully structured to provide children with a calm, positive start and a balanced rhythm of learning, play and social time throughout the day.
Morning arrival
Gates open at 8.30am and children enter the school site through the green gate by Reception. This time allows children to arrive calmly, greet friends and settle into the day.
Registration begins at 8.45am, and children should be in their classrooms ready to start their learning at this time.
Learning through the day
Core learning takes place during the morning, when children are at their freshest and most ready to learn. This time is used for English, maths and key knowledge-based learning.
In the afternoon, children move into foundation subjects, where they are able to apply their learning in a broader and often more practical context through subjects such as science, history, geography, art, DT, computing and PSHE.
All classes take part in one PE session each week, supporting children’s physical development, teamwork and wellbeing.
Breaktime
A whole-school breaktime takes place at 10.45am for 15 minutes. This provides children with the opportunity to play, socialise and reset before returning to their learning.
Lunchtime
Lunchtime runs from 12.00pm until 1.00pm. All children eat together in the school hall, which helps to promote a strong sense of community across the school. For children who benefit from a quieter and less stimulating environment, a lunch club is available.
End of the day
The school day finishes at 3.15pm for all classes. Children are collected from the playground at the end of the day.
An array of clubs is available after school, offering children further opportunities to explore interests, develop skills and enjoy time with friends beyond the classroom.
Working Together
We understand that occasional illness is unavoidable. However, we encourage families to keep absences to a minimum and to contact the school office as early as possible if your child is unwell. If attendance begins to fall, we will work with you to identify support, remove barriers and improve routines. This may include check-ins with our school team, attendance plans or early help support where needed.
