Wittersham Way

At Wittersham Church of England Primary School, our Christian values of Compassion, Courage and Cooperation are at the heart of school life. Together, these values form the Wittersham Way – a shared understanding of how we learn, behave, build relationships and care for one another.

The Wittersham Way ensures that our values are not simply words, but something we actively live out every day. It provides clear expectations for our children and adults and helps us to create a community in which everyone feels valued, respected and able to flourish.

Compassion

“Love your neighbour as yourself.”
Matthew 22:39

Compassion means recognising the needs and feelings of others and responding with kindness, understanding and care.

We show compassion by being kind and respectful, listening to others, showing empathy and making sure everyone feels that they belong. We celebrate the differences between us and recognise that each person is unique and valued.

When things go wrong, compassion also helps us to forgive, restore relationships and move forward together.

Courage

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9

Courage means having the confidence to try, persevere and do what is right, even when something feels difficult.

We encourage our children to embrace challenge, learn from mistakes and keep going when they encounter setbacks. Courage means being honest, taking responsibility for our actions, asking for help when we need it and having the confidence to speak up for ourselves and others.

Through courage, our children develop the resilience and independence they need for their learning and for life beyond Wittersham.

Cooperation

“Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.”
1 Corinthians 12:12

Cooperation reminds us that we are stronger when we work together.

We learn to listen to one another, share ideas, contribute, compromise and recognise the strengths that every individual brings to our community. We support one another in our learning, celebrate each other’s successes and work together to overcome challenges.

Through cooperation, our children learn that they have an important part to play in our school, our rural community and the wider world.

Living the Wittersham Way

The Wittersham Way connects our Christian vision with everyday life. It shapes the choices we make, the relationships we build and the way we approach learning.

It provides a shared language for children, staff and families, helping us to recognise positive choices and supporting us to reflect, repair and restore when things go wrong.

As our children continue their voyage of discovery through Wittersham, Compassion, Courage and Cooperation provide the foundations that guide them. Together, we aim to nurture children who are confident in themselves, compassionate towards others, courageous in the face of challenge and ready to contribute positively to their community and the wider world.

This is the Wittersham Way: our values lived every day.
