Safeguarding

Safeguarding at Wittersham Church of England Primary School

At Wittersham Church of England Primary School, the safety, welfare, and well-being of every child is our highest priority. Safeguarding is a shared responsibility and is at the heart of everything we do. Every member of staff is committed to maintaining a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment in which all children can thrive.

The school is led by Stella Coulson (Headteacher), who is also the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL). She is supported by a skilled and experienced safeguarding team of Deputy DSLs:

  • Lucy Avena – Teacher

  • Lynsey Scott – Assistant Headteacher

  • Claire Sterriker-Rhodes – Family Liaison Officer

Together, they work in close partnership to uphold the highest standards of behaviour, care, and safeguarding throughout the school. Regular training, open communication, and strong links with external agencies ensure that every child’s well-being is protected and promoted at all times.

Safer Recruitment

Wittersham Church of England Primary School is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff, governors, and volunteers to share this commitment.

All appointments are subject to:

  • An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check

  • A check against the ISA Barred List for children

  • Satisfactory references and identity checks

We also follow Kent County Council guidelines regarding DBS checks for volunteers who support our school activities and learning.

Kent Safeguarding Children Board (KSCB)

We work in close partnership with the Kent Safeguarding Children Board (KSCB), which provides a wealth of guidance, resources, and training for professionals, parents, carers, and young people.
