House Captains
At Wittersham Church of England Primary School, our House Captains play an important role in school life, helping to promote our Christian values, encourage teamwork and ensure that every pupil feels part of our school community.
Each September, our Year 6 pupils have the exciting opportunity to put themselves forward for election as House Captain. As part of our democratic process, candidates prepare and deliver a speech to the school, sharing their ideas, aspirations and reasons why they would make a fantastic representative for their house. Pupils then cast their votes, giving everyone a voice in choosing their House Captains for the year ahead.
Our House Captains are entrusted with a range of important responsibilities, including:
-
Leading and supporting inter-house competitions and activities.
-
Collecting and celebrating weekly house points during our celebration worship.
-
Acting as positive role models, demonstrating our school values of Courage, Compassion and Cooperation.
-
Encouraging teamwork, friendship and a sense of belonging across the school.
-
Working alongside staff to develop ideas that make Wittersham an even better place to learn and grow.
Our Four Houses
Our school houses are named after four beautiful castles in Kent:
🏰 Bodiam - Percy
🏰 Hever - Elliot
🏰 Leeds - Stan
🏰 Scotney - Winnie
Every child belongs to a house, creating opportunities for pupils of all ages to work together, celebrate achievements and develop a strong sense of team spirit.
House points are awarded when children demonstrate our Christian values, show exceptional effort, support others or go above and beyond in their learning and behaviour.
At the end of each full term, the house with the highest number of points earns a special reward, chosen by the winning house. From non-uniform days and celebrations to additional playtime, these rewards recognise the collective achievements of the whole team.
Developing Tomorrow's Leaders
Being a House Captain is about much more than collecting points or organising competitions. It provides our oldest pupils with a valuable opportunity to develop confidence, responsibility, communication and leadership skills.
Through their roles, our House Captains help bring our school vision to life:
“On a voyage of discovery; learning and growing together in the light of God.”
We are incredibly proud of the positive contribution our House Captains make to our Wittersham family! 💚
