Music

Our Music Curriculum:

At Wittersham Church of England Primary School, our commitment to a comprehensive, personalised curriculum, infused with the golden threads of Compare, Reflect, and Discover, extends to all areas of education, including our Music curriculum. We are proud to employ the versatile and engaging Kapow curriculum to nurture students' musical talents and appreciation.

Intent:

Music is a vital component of a well-rounded education. It fosters creativity, emotional expression, and cognitive development. The renowned philosopher, Plato, aptly said, "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything." Our Music curriculum, guided by Kapow, aims to instil this sentiment in our students.

Through the lens of Compare, we explore various musical genres and styles, encouraging students to appreciate the rich diversity of world music. We Reflect on the emotional and cultural significance of music, and we empower students to Discover their own musical voices.

Implementation:

In our Music curriculum, we adopt an experiential learning approach, facilitated by the Kapow curriculum. Inspired by educational theorist Carl Orff, we believe in the power of active, hands-on musical exploration. Students engage in practical music-making, learning to play instruments, compose melodies, and perform in ensembles.

This approach cultivates a sense of courage and risk-taking in our students, as they step outside their comfort zones to express themselves through music. We also encourage cooperation through group performances and collaborative projects, reinforcing the value of working together harmoniously.

Impact:

The impact of our Music curriculum, guided by Kapow, extends beyond musical skills. Students develop a heightened sense of creativity, confidence, and cultural awareness. They gain not only the ability to appreciate music but also to create it, expressing their emotions and ideas through a unique medium.

Our Music curriculum contributes to a student's holistic growth, nurturing not only their musical talents but also their emotional intelligence and cognitive abilities. It encourages students to be compassionate by understanding and respecting different musical traditions, courageous in their musical endeavours, and cooperative as they create music together.

In conclusion, our Music curriculum, guided by Kapow, embodies our school's commitment to a well-rounded education that includes the golden threads of Compare, Reflect, and Discover. Through this approach, we nurture the next generation of musicians and well-rounded individuals who carry the values of compassion, courage, and cooperation into all aspects of their lives.
