Rother Class
Welcome to Rother Classroom!
Rother is our Year 6 class, where students are prepared for the exciting transition from primary school to secondary school. This year is all about refining skills, embracing responsibility, and preparing for the future while continuing to foster a love of learning.
What We Do in Rother
- Advanced Literacy Skills: In Rother, we continue to develop our reading and writing abilities with a focus on refining grammar, expanding vocabulary, and honing our writing skills. Students read a range of challenging texts, exploring different genres and styles, and respond with thoughtful analysis and creativity. Writing tasks cover everything from narrative and descriptive writing to persuasive essays and formal reports.
- Mathematical Mastery: Our Year 6 students engage with complex mathematical concepts, from algebra and geometry to ratio and proportion. We emphasise problem-solving, logical thinking, and developing a clear understanding of mathematical methods. Children work to apply their skills to practical situations, building their confidence in maths as they prepare for secondary school.
- Science Investigations: Rother students delve deeper into scientific concepts, exploring topics like the circulatory system, electricity, evolution, and the properties of materials. Our science curriculum is hands-on and inquiry-based, encouraging students to investigate, experiment, and think critically about the world around them.
- Cross-Curricular Learning: In Year 6, we continue to make connections across subjects to enhance our learning. Our history topics might link to geographical studies, and we explore how subjects like science and the arts intersect. This holistic approach helps students see the relevance of their learning in the real world.
- History and Geography: Rother class studies significant historical events and periods, exploring topics such as World War II, Ancient Civilisations, and British History. In geography, we expand our knowledge of the physical and human geography of the world, covering topics such as maps, environmental issues, and how the world’s landscapes have changed over time.
- Creative Arts and Technology: Creativity is key in Rother! Students explore their artistic side through drawing, painting, and sculpture, and develop their musical talents through performance and composition. Technology is also integrated into our learning, where students work with coding, digital design, and video production, equipping them with vital skills for the future.
- Personal Growth and Leadership: In Year 6, we focus on developing the skills students need for the next stage of their education. This includes time management, independent study, and taking on leadership roles. As the oldest students in the school, Rother students are role models and ambassadors for younger students, contributing to school life through various responsibilities and leadership opportunities.
Our Aim
At Rother, our aim is to ensure every student is academically and emotionally prepared for the challenges ahead. We aim to foster resilience, curiosity, and a sense of pride in every student’s achievements, preparing them for secondary school and beyond. By the time they leave us, Rother students are confident, capable, and ready to take on new adventures, equipped with the skills and knowledge needed for the next step in their educational journey.
We are incredibly proud of the hard work, perseverance, and achievements of our Rother students and look forward to supporting them every step of the way!
