Viking Class

Welcome to Vikings Classroom!

Vikings is our mixed Year 3 and Year 4 class, where children embark on an exciting learning journey that builds on their previous knowledge while expanding their understanding of the world around them. It’s a place where curiosity is nurtured, skills are refined, and children are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning.

What We Do in Vikings

  • Broadening Knowledge: In Year 3 and 4, we focus on building a deep understanding of a range of subjects, from the core areas of literacy and numeracy to science, history, geography, and more. The curriculum is designed to challenge students while making learning fun and engaging.
  • Literacy and Communication: Literacy is central to our learning, and in Vikings, we explore a variety of texts and genres. We work on improving writing skills, from creative storytelling to formal writing, and develop strong reading comprehension strategies.
  • Mathematics Mastery: In maths, we focus on deepening our understanding of number, calculation, and problem-solving. Children work on fluency with basic skills and are encouraged to apply these to real-life situations, helping them develop mathematical thinking.
  • Cross-Curricular Learning: We link subjects together through exciting topics, allowing children to make connections across different areas of learning. Whether studying the ancient Egyptians, exploring the forces of nature, or delving into space, Vikings children engage in rich, thematic learning.
  • Science and Exploration: Through hands-on investigations, children in Vikings discover the wonders of the world, from the properties of materials to understanding the human body. Science topics spark creativity and critical thinking, with children learning through experimentation and exploration.
  • The Arts: Creativity is encouraged in Vikings through art, music, and drama. From sketching and painting to learning new musical skills, children are given plenty of opportunities to express themselves and develop their talents.
  • History and Geography: We explore exciting periods of history, such as the Vikings themselves, ancient civilizations, and the local area. Our geography studies help children understand the world, from mapping to understanding environmental issues.
  • Personal Development: We focus on building children’s confidence, independence, and resilience, with a strong emphasis on the school values of courage, cooperation, and compassion. Through group work, problem-solving activities, and taking on roles of responsibility, children develop important life skills.

Our Aim

In Vikings, we strive to create an inclusive and supportive classroom where every child is encouraged to reach their potential. We celebrate diversity, foster a love of learning, and encourage each child to become confident, independent thinkers ready to face the challenges of Key Stage 2 and beyond.

With a focus on both academic achievement and personal growth, the Vikings class is a dynamic and thriving environment where children can grow, explore, and thrive as learners and individuals. Come and see what makes Vikings such a special place to be!
